The implementation of 4G LTE is a long and difficult process
.
The design and implementation of the current wireless communication standard also took nearly 4 years
.
At present, 5G has been drafted, and the first phase of the standard is ready
in just 27 months.
Since April 2016, Samsung Electronics has held the Third Generation Partnership Program (3GPP), which is also the first meeting
to discuss the 5G standard.
More than 80 telecom companies participated in the conference
.
Two years later, in May 2018, Samsung held its second meeting in Busan, South Korea, to complete the standardization process
.
Through feedback from this year's Busan meeting, 3GPP will unveil the 5G Phase-1 standard
at the conference in the United States in June this year.
5G services will be able to deliver up to 20 times the performance
of current 4G LTE services.
5G will launch in select markets this year, but don't expect widespread adoption
within a few years.
Mainly due to the contributions of countries such as Japan, South Korea and the United States, 5G deployment time has accelerated
significantly.
The initial targets for 2017 were set by Samsung, but some compromises were made in order to let other players decide to move to 5G
after completing the LTE project.
The approval of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has also further accelerated the development of 5G
.
As one of the leading companies in 5G development, Samsung has registered more than 1,200 5G-related patents
as of May this year.
Once the first phase of the standard is implemented, the 5G commercial competition will be more intense
in the second half of 2018.
