    National Natural Science Foundation
    (NSFC) based on bilateral cooperation agreements with the National Science Foundation (NSF) and consensus with the UK National Research and Innovation Agency (UKRI) and the Israeli-American Science Foundation (BSF),2 In 2020, the parties intend to jointly solicit cooperative research projects and cooperative exchange projects, encourage China and the United States, the United States and Britain, China and the United States to cooperate with scientists in the field of "ecology and evolution of infectious diseases " (EEID), and support Chinese and American, Chinese and American scientists in this field to build new cooperation networks with potential partners.(i) Cooperative research projects
    1. Funding areas
    EEID projects support interdisciplinary research on ecological, evolutionary and social laws and processes that affect the dynamics of the spread of infectious diseases. The research topic should take the quantitative or computational analysis of pathogen transmission dynamics as the theme, establish and test quantitative or computational models that can fully describe the infectious disease system, and find out the law of infectious disease transmission. Specific requirements are as follows:
    research areas may include, but are not limited to, the dendients and interrelations of the spread of infectious diseases between humans, non-human animals and/or plants, such as the spread of pathogens, the effects of environmental factors (such as climate), the dynamics and genetics of natural hosts or hosts, feedback between ecological and evolutionary dynamics, and cultural, social, behavioural and economic factors of pathogen transmission.
    Types of infectious diseases can be directed at infectious diseases originating in animals, environments, vectors, or guts within land, freshwater or marine systems;
    Encourages researchers to form multidisciplinary teams, such as mathematicians, statisticians, computer scientists, ecologists, bioinficionists, genomic researchers, social scientists, economists, epidemiologists, evolutionary biologists, entomologists, parasites, microbiologists, bacteriologists, virologists, pathologists, or veterinarians.
    The following research is not supported by this project:
    (1) is limited to genetic patterns that focus on evolutionary changes
    (e.g., comparative genomics);
    (3) focuses only on pathogen discovery;
    (4) only on the study of biological processes in the host body;
    (5) only on vector species ecology;
    (6) on pathogenic microorganisms that have not been predetermined for at least one focused study; and
    (7) on antimicrobial resistance without considering pathogen propagation dynamics.
    detailed description of the area of funding can be found in annex 1 to this guide.

    (ii) Cooperation and exchange projects
    1. Funding Area
    As a cooperative exchange project, the EEID Research Coordination Network (RCN) project aims to promote the establishment of new networks of cooperation among researchers in the participating countries of the EEID project, exploring innovative ideas around the construction and implementation of new cooperation mechanisms, training, expanded participation and the application of cooperative technologies and data to address interdisciplinary issues related to EEID. The project encourages the participation of young scholars, postdoctoral, postgraduate and undergraduate students. Applications based on existing partnerships will no longer be funded.
