Interleukin-3, a messenger substance produced by the body, was previously thought to be a pro-inflammatory substance in bronchial asthma

The research team, led by Professors Susetta Finotto (MD) and Susanne Krammer (Pharmacist), from the Department of Molecular Pulmonology, studied the production of messenger substances in healthy preschool children and asthmatics and participated in the European PreDicta Childhood Asthma research

Using a mouse model of asthma, the researchers also investigated whether intranasal injection of IL-3 during an asthma challenge actually improved asthma symptoms

IL-3 also resulted in decreased activation of inflammatory innate lymphoid 2 cells
