A new paper focuses on the preparation of metal pigment powder coatings with high color stability through self-designed microwave bonding equipment.
With the increasingly stringent environmental regulations for the use of traditional metal coatings, there has also been a corresponding interest in metal pigment powder coatings due to their zero emissions of volatile organic compounds, high protection and glittering aesthetic appearance.
metal pigment powder coating consists of two incompatible components: base powder coating and metal pigment

. Bonding the two materials together is an effective way to eliminate their incompatibness and ensure color stability. Here, a self-designed adhesive device based on microwave heating was invented for bonding metallic coloring powder coatings. In addition, the quality of the bonding is revealed first by analyzing the percentage of mass of the metal pigments in the powder, using direct and quantitative quantification methods, i.e. ash testing. As a controlled test, a comprehensive study of unadhesive powders was carried out.
    an effective production
the device is used to prepare samples of microwave binding at various temperatures and speeds and then evaluate them. After microwave processing, the reliable combination of base powder coatings and metallic pigments is demonstrated through a range of properties such as ash testing, SEM, EDS, optical observation and dimensional analysis. Therefore, microwave bonding method is considered to be a metal pigment powder coating feasible and effective production method.
the study was published in October 2020 in volume 147 of Organic Coatings Progress.
