Gynecologists at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center reviewed the literature and found that adenomyosis-abnormal tissue growth in the uterine muscle wall that causes dysmenorrhea and severe or prolonged menstrual bleeding-is more common than generally believed

Researchers pointed out that as many as one-third of women have adenomyosis, and adenomyosis should be considered in the differential diagnosis of abnormal uterine bleeding and/or pelvic pain

"A lot of women come to me and say that the only solution they get is hysterectomy

    Dr.

"There is a need to increase clinical awareness to ensure proper patient care and encourage more research to improve the understanding of adenomyosis

FDA does not approve drugs specifically for the treatment of adenomyosis, but it can be controlled by using drugs developed for contraception or other symptoms of gynecological diseases (such as uterine fibroids or endometriosis)
