Introduction: according to a survey funded by the American corn grower association (ACGA), the area of genetically modified corn planted by American farmers in 2001 was 6% less than that in 2000 ACGA uses data from the Bureau of agricultural statistics of the U.S Department of agriculture to estimate that farmers in 14 major corn growing states planted 21 percent of the total corn planting area this year According to Larry Mitchell, President of ACGA, the survey surveyed 509 farmers, and showed that 73.7% of the farmers surveyed believed that customers' refusal to accept genetically modified corn was the reason for the continuous downturn in the price of corn received by corn growers.
