Recently, Samsung Advanced Research Institute of South Korea developed a biological route for the production of acrylic using macro genome screening and artificial design, the results of which were published in the internationally renowned academic journal Metabolic Engineering. The study obtained biosynthetic pathways for the direct production of acrylic acid from 3-hydroxypropyl acid (3-HP), 3-hydroxypropylate coenzyme A and acrylamide coenzyme A through macro genome screening and artificial design. Unlike chemical synthesis routes, new paths do not consume a lot of energy during conversion.
the study was optimized to increase acrylic production. Its main optimization work has the following two aspects, one is through macrogenomic screening to obtain a series of highly dynamic enzymes to unblock the upstream path from glucose to 3-hydroxypropyl acid, and the other is from 3-hydroxypropyl acid to acrylic downstream route of artificial design. Although the study eventually resulted in a full biosynthetic acrylic of only 0.12g/L, as the only way of a full biosynthetic of acrylic acid, it may lead to a full-scale biochemical raid on traditional chemicals.
, based on computer modeling analysis, rational optimization of this new approach will most likely lead to industrial production. At present, countries around the world are increasingly concerned about the depletion of oil resources and the deterioration of the global climate. The search for renewable energy alternatives to traditional chemicals has long been a major focus of the global chemical industry. In the traditional chemical industry, acrylic is particularly important with an annual global demand of 4.2 million tons.
