Portugal has postponed the second round of solar licence tenders due to the coronavirus pandemic, however, Portugal still wants to launch tenders
by June if the spread of the pandemic begins to slow down, the Ministry of Environment said on Monday.
The tender for permits for 700 megawatts (MW) of new solar capacity, originally scheduled to begin in April, will help Portugal meet its ambition to have 7,000 megawatts of renewable energy by 2030
.
A spokesperson for the environment ministry said: "The qualification and tender stages have been delayed and should take place
as soon as the situation stabilizes.
We expect to be able to do so
in the first half of the year.
”
Portugal's first large tender for 1,150 MW of solar power in June last year attracted mainly international players such as Spain's Iberdrola, France's Akuo Energy, Britain's Aura Power and Germany's Enerpac Projects
.
Portugal also set a record for the lowest price per MWh in the first round of solar tenders, compared to an average auction price of €20 MWh
.
