Elobixibat is an ileal bile acid transporter (IBAT) inhibitor that increases the concentration of bile acid in the colon and stimulates intestinal function.

A total of 30 patients were enrolled in the study and received 10 mg of elobixibat daily for 2 weeks.

The results showed that the frequency of bowel movements in patients before and after treatment with elobixibat was 7 and 10 times per two weeks, respectively (P <0.

In summary, the results of this study show that short-term treatment of elobixibat increases the concentration of total bile acid and deoxycholic acid, and reduces the diversity of the fecal microbiota.
