On March 17th ALTANA, the specialty chemicals group, reported full-year 2016 sales of EUR 2,075 million, up 1% year-on-year. Adjusted for acquisitions and exchange rate impact, sales increased 2% year-over-year. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) rose 16 per cent year-on-year to EUR 453 million. Net profit was EUR 210 million, up 33% year-on-year." 2016 has been a very good year for Altana. In a challenging market environment, we are able to increase our sales and profitability. China is asia's largest single market, with nominal sales up 6 per cent and revenue up 11 per cent year-on-year. In the Americas, nominal sales and turnover fell by 3% and 4%, respectively, from a year earlier, as weak demand in the oil and gas sector led to a decline in sales. U.S. sales fell 4 percent and 5 percent, respectively. However, the region remains the largest single market for the Altana Group. Nominal sales in Europe remained at the same level as the previous year, with operating sales up two percentage points.
