On March 2, Angola Cable, a wholesale telecommunications operator, recently selected Ciena's GeoMesh and Blue Planet solutions to support the application of
its MONET submarine cable system.
With a total length of 10,556 kilometers connecting the United States and São Paulo, Brazil, with a total transmission capacity of 25 Tbps, Angolan Cable can better support Angola Cable's customers with new services such as OTT video and cloud computing
.
Angola Cable is a major investor in WACS, a West African cable system with customers located on the west coast of Africa and playing an important role
in the continent's network connectivity.
They are also one
of the operators of the MONET submarine cable.
The cable is expected to be operational
in the second half of 2017.
According to Frost & Sullivan, Brazil's cloud computing market will reach $1.
1 billion
this year.
Ciena's 6500 packet optical platform equipped with WaveLogic AI coherent optical chips will provide users of Angolan cables with 200Gbps connectivity without the need for regeneration
.
At the same time, Ciena's GeoMesh spectrum sharing capability provides better economics and supports network traffic management
without disrupting services.
Using Ciena's Blue Planet MCP software and cloud-based SLA ports, Angola Cable can better manage bandwidth while providing real-time visibility into network performance
.
Ciena will also provide services
such as training and NOC monitoring for Angola Cable.
Angola Cable was established in 2009 and is mainly engaged in providing services
to international network connections.
They are the main managers of WACS, providing services in Angola and sub-Saharan and have data centers in the capital Luanda and new world-class data centers
in Fortaleza, Brazil.
Angola Cable aims to make Angola a telecommunications hub
in Africa.
