Hip pain is clinically common, and many older or middle-aged people experience hip pain, which can be caused by glioarthritis or osteoarthritis.
study was designed to explore the natural course of hip osteoarthritis (OA) in people with first-time hip pain.
studied early symptomatic hip OA patients in hip and knee cohort studies, collecting baseline and data after 2, 5, 8 and 10 years.
use descriptive statistical methods to analyze the natural course of hip pain, including clinical signs and symptoms, somatic function, and imaging osteoarthritis (ROA) characteristics.
results were as follows: 588 participants with hip pain were included, 86 per cent of whom completed 10 years of follow-up.
10-year follow-up showed that 12 per cent of participants (69 participants) received hip replacement surgery (HR) and the prevalence of hip ROA (Kellgren and Lawrence scores ≥2) increased from 19 per cent to 49 per cent.
the prevalence of clinical hip OA increased from 27% to 43%, according to the American Rheumatology Society.
10-year follow-up period, all Osteoarthritis Index scales and physical activity remained the same for patients who did not receive HR.
use of painkillers increased from 43 per cent of the baseline to 50 per cent 10 years later.
10-year follow-up period, one in nine patients with early hip pain underwent hip replacement surgery.
and the prevalence of clinical hip OA and hip ROA has steadily increased.
the study found that 10 years later, patients with first-time hip pain either underwent hip replacement surgery or had the same symptoms.
