On the afternoon of September 20, China Nuclear Power Co.
    , Ltd.
announced that the Sanmen Nuclear Power Unit 1 controlled and invested by the company is expected to complete the 168-hour full-power continuous operation assessment on September 21, 2018, and has the conditions
    for commercial operation.

The first phase of the two-unit Sanmen Nuclear Power Project is one of the autonomous projects for the introduction of
third-generation nuclear power technology in China.
The Sanmen project adopts advanced passive pressurized water reactor nuclear power technology (AP1000) imported from Westinghouse in the United States, and is led by to implement the general contracting of nuclear islands, and is constructed and operated by CNNC to assume safety responsibilities
    .

In 2003, when the national nuclear power policy became clear, the government decided to adjust the "moderate development of nuclear power" to "active development of nuclear power", launched a number of new nuclear power projects, and introduced the world's advanced nuclear power technology to unify the technical route
    .
After three years of bidding and technical negotiations, the AP1000 technology of Westinghouse of the United States won the competition with the EPR technology of Areva of France, and became the target
of the introduction of China's third-generation nuclear power.
After determining the technical route for introduction, a total of 4 units of Zhejiang Sanmen Nuclear Power Plant and Shandong Haiyang Nuclear Power Plant were identified as China's third-generation nuclear power autonomy support projects
    .
Among them, Sanmen Unit 1, which is the world's first reactor of AP1000, was held on March 29, 2009 FCD (First Tank Concrete Pouring Day).

Due to a series of design, manufacturing and construction difficulties during the construction of the first pile, Sanmen Unit 1 was originally planned to be loaded in May 2013 and put into commercial operation at the end of 2014.

China Nuclear Power announced that Sanmen Nuclear Power Unit 1 has a rated capacity of 1250MW (Note: 1MW=1000KW), and the unit adopts the third-generation nuclear power technology AP1000, the biggest feature is the use of "passive safety system"
    .
Adhering to the principle of "safety first, quality first", the unit construction has completed the design and solidification of the third-generation nuclear power technology AP1000, and carried out a number of first reactor related tests, which fully verified the safety, maturity and reliability
    of the AP1000 unit.

After the commissioning of Sanmen Nuclear Power Unit 1, the number of nuclear power units in service of China Nuclear Power Holdings will reach 19, and the installed capacity in service will increase from 15,466MW to 16,716MW.
The installed capacity of nuclear power in service will increase from 8,351.
    48MW to 8,988.
    98MW.

The National Energy Administration's 2018 Energy Work Guidance pointed out that units Sanmen No.
    1, Haiyang No.
    1, Taishan No.
    1, Tianwan No.
    3 and Yangjiang No.
5 are planned to be completed this year
    .
At the same time, it actively promotes the approval of construction of qualified projects, and plans to start construction of 6-8 units within the year
    .
However, so far, no new nuclear power units have been approved
    in China this year.
