The results of the study on the application performance of natural fluid-modified guar gum in water-based coatings show that natural fluid-modified guar gum is applied to water-based coatings, the paint performance is improved, it has superior leveling and obvious price advantage, the production cost is low, and the water-based coating performance is in line with national standards.
Introduction
Since 1953, when Romenhas synthesized the world's first pure propylene emulsion, Rhoplex AC-33, cellulose ether has been used in water-based coatings for its excellent water-saving, construction and thickening efficiency. Cellulose ether is made up of glucose, but the connection between glucose units is β (1-4) glycoside bond. Cellulose does not contain a branch chain. Cellulose's spatial structure is ribbon-like, and the sugar chain accumulates through hydrogen bonds to form a tight layer structure, which makes cellulose have a strong mechanical strength and supports and protects the organism. Cellulose can be applied to water-based coatings only after etherization with liquid alkali, chloromethane, ethylene oxide, etc.
guar gum, known in English as "guar gum" (semi-lactose polysaccharin), is a polymeric sugar polymer isolated from the seeds of natural legumes (Cyampop is tetragonolobus). Guar gum to ganucle polysaccharine as the main molecular chain, D-furan semi-lactose as a branch chain, wherein the ratio of glycer sugar to semi-lactose unit is 2:1. Guar gum dissolves in hot and cold water. Because of its low-cost and efficient emulsification and thickening properties, guar gum has been widely used in oil field drilling, papermaking, textiles, cosmetics and food.
through modified guar gums such as hydroxyethyl or hydroxypropyl, in Europe has begun to be used as a water-based coating thickener to replace the traditional expensive hydroxyethyl cellulose ether, obtained good economic and social benefits. Guar gum as a thickener can not only replace or partially replace the traditional hydroxyethyl cellulose ether, but also has a good improvement effect on latex paint, it guarantees a certain degree of tacthragm performance on the basis of the system to bring good leveling, but also has a good film-aiding effect.
some manufacturers have been exposed to Guar gum products before, but early products have price instability and other objective factors. PetroChina has set up an annual output of 5000 tons of guar gum production line to meet customer demand.
this paper studies the application properties of natural fluid-modified guar gum in water-based coatings.
experimentRaw materials
used in this experiment are found in Table 1.
Main technical indicators of guar gum and hydroxyethyl cellulose
The main technical indicators of guar gum and hydroxyethyl cellulose can be found in
Table 2
Weigh the calculated amount of water first, stir to add a specified amount of guar gum or cellulose, to be stirred evenly, drip into 2 drops of AMP-95 adjust the pH to 8 to 9, further improve the speed of stirring, stirring to the system is translucent semi-viscous liquid, spare.
compared with the storage stability of 2% aqueous solution
at 30 degrees C, the storage stability of the prepared 2% guar gum and hydroxyethyl cellulose aqueous solution was compared, and the results were seen in Table 3.
250HBR and Guar glue production paint performance and its cost comparison
hydroxyethyl cellulose 250HBR and Guar glue coating formula can be seen in Table 4, according to Table 4 formulation of the paint performance, coating performance, construction performance and material costs see Table 5.
from Table 5, we can see that the latex paint made of PetroChina 28,000 guar gum has better smoothness and mobility. And simply replacing guar gum can save 60 yuan per ton of paint.
The effect of PetroChina 28000 on scrubbing resistance under different additions
According to the formula of Table 4, change the amount of added 28,000 guar gum of PetroChina, the effect on the scrub resistance of coating formula can be seen in Table 6.
from Table 6, we can see that with the increase in the amount of guar glue added, the coating film scrub resistance performance has been improved, but after the addition of more than 0.4% performance changes less.
The experimental performance of PetroChina 28000 in different emulsion additions is compared
results show that PetroChina 28000 has better viscosity and scrub resistance in low, medium and high PVC.
Conclusion
Petroleum 28000, the representative product of natural rheumate additives for water-based coatings, is entirely possible as a rheumor additive for the manufacture of coatings or as a partial alternative to imported HEC, with obvious price advantages. For an annual output of 5000 tons of manufacturers, annual cost savings can reach about 200,000 yuan, the economic value is obvious. PetroChina Guar gum has excellent leveling performance, and because of its special structure, can save part of the emulsion, the coating film to help, the final formation of the coating film has better water resistance and scrub resistance.
