Recently, ALPLA announced the acquisition of two Spanish-based manufacturers of recycled high-density polyethylene, to expand the field of polyolefin recycling
.
The two acquired companies are Suminco SA, located near Barcelona, and Replcal SL, north of Madrid
.
The two factories have a total of 50 employees, and the annual production capacity can be expanded to 35,000 tons
.
Georg Lässer, head of Apra's recycling department, explained that the investment in two recycling plants in Spain brings Apra closer to its overall goal of becoming a leading manufacturer of sustainable plastic packaging
.
To date, a significant portion of the HDPE regrind produced by Suminco and Replcal has been used in the manufacture of corrugated pipes for sewage systems and other industrial applications
.
Apra now intends to use suitable recycled materials for packaging manufacturing
.
Jose Peruga, the original owner of the factory, added: “For more than three decades, our product quality in post-consumer recycling has been widely recognized, and the synergies with ALPLA will allow us to further improve product quality
.
In the UK, Apra uses 13,000 tonnes of recycled high-density polyethylene (rHDPE) per year to produce milk and juice bottles
As the world's leading supplier of packaging solutions, Apra has been committed to supporting the circular economy in recent years, investing 50 million euros in the recycling of packaging
