Background: Synovial tissue research has been extensively developed in several rheumatology centers, however, there is considerable variation in how synovial tissue is handled, more specifically, data in the literature on biopsy procedures, quality checks, and experimental results How to report
METHODS: Twenty-five members from 10 countries inEurope and the United States met online to identify key areas for assessment and formulate research questions to inform systematic literature reviews (SLRs) .
The results were announced at a second virtual meeting, where points for consideration were developed and agreed .
RESULTS: Study design, biopsy procedures, tissue processing, tissue quality control, and tissue outcomes (imaging, DNA/RNA analysis and disaggregation) were identified as important aspects of the quality of synovial tissue studies
.
SLR queried 4 databases and retrieved 7654 abstracts, including 26 manuscripts
RESULTS: Study design, biopsy procedures, tissue processing, tissue quality control, and tissue outcomes (imaging, DNA/RNA analysis and disaggregation) were identified as important aspects of the quality of synovial tissue studies
Conclusions: These considerations provide guidance on how to report studies involving synovial tissue to ensure that readers, reviewers, and the wider scientific community can better assess the results
