Original title: Australian study says sedatives may help with antidepressants
Researchers at Murdoch University and others in Australia recently published a paper in the British Journal of Neuropsychology that said sedum extracts have better antidepressant effects when used in association with antidepressants, although researchers say this is only preliminary. The
paper said 160 depressed patients between the ages of 18 and 65 were divided into two groups, both taking antidepressants, one with additional sedum extract capsules and the other with a placebo.
results showed a 41 percent reduction in depressive symptoms in the sedent capsule group and a 21 percent reduction in depressive symptoms in the placebo group. In addition, the previous group of patients performed better in terms of sleep quality and active participation in various activities.
study lead author Adrian Lopresti of Murdoch University, said the results suggest that sedatives can be used as a supplement to improve the effectiveness of antidepressant treatments. But the researchers say this is only preliminary and more research is needed on the antidepressant effects of sedatives.
