Recently, Ballard Power Systems announced that it has signed an investment agreement with the government of Anting Town, Jiading, Shanghai, to establish a new Chinese headquarters, membrane electrode manufacturing plant and R&D center
    in Jiading Hydrogen Energy Port.
The plant is scheduled to be operational
    in 2025.

Ballard plans to invest about $130 million over the next three years, and the new plant is expected to produce 13 million membrane
    electrodes per year.
These membrane electrodes will supply around 20,000 fuel cell engines
    per year.
The plant also reserves assembly capacity
for about 600 fuel cell engines per year.
In addition, Ballard will establish an R&D and innovation center in the same location to focus on membrane electrode research to enable the company's key technology advancements, support cost reduction initiatives, and actively participate in the rapidly growing local fuel cell materials and components supply chain
    in China.

In 2021, Ballard completed the expansion
of membrane electrode production capacity in Canada.
With the new membrane electrode production line landing in China, it is expected that Ballard's total global production capacity of membrane electrodes can meet the market demand
    in the next 5~10 years.

"Our global production goal by 2030 is to achieve market-leading 'geo-local' production of fuel cell engines and components in our core regions of Europe, North America and China, and to support future growth and expansion
through our fuel cell vertical value chain," said Kevin Mak, President and Chief Executive Officer of Ballard.
