According to statistics from Bangladeshi authorities, the total length of transmission lines in the country is currently 11,123 kilometers, covering all regions
of Bangladesh.
These include 7,082 km of 132 kV transmission lines, 3,343 km of 230 kV transmission lines, and 698 km of 400 kV transmission lines
.
By 2041, the government plans to further expand transmission lines by 36,870 km nationwide, with electricity production expected to reach 60,000MW.
According to the Dhaka Tribune, of the future general grid transmission lines, 132 kV lines are 16,655 kilometers long, 230 kV lines are 9,717 kilometers long, 400 kV lines are 1,740 kilometers long, and 765 kV lines are 796 kilometers
long.
Nasrul Hamid, Minister of State Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, said that the domestic power generation scale has exceeded the 20,000 MW mark, but in fact, the highest domestic power generation capacity on September 19 was 11,623MW.
Many parts of the country, especially in rural areas, often face power outages and power outages
due to deficiencies in the transmission and distribution system.
Acknowledging that weak and tight funding has led to the backwardness of domestic transmission and distribution system construction, Nasrul Hamid has recently urged the private sector to invest in the power transmission business
.
He said the country will need $80 billion by 2041 to develop the country's power sector, most of which will go to the transmission sector
.
"So far, the country has received about $14 billion in investment in the power sector, a large part of which comes from local and foreign direct investment (FDI) under the private sector power generation policy," Nasrul Hamid said, adding that now the government wants the private sector to better participate in the power sector
.
Power Cell statistics show that of the total power generation, the public sector generates about 8,845MW, the private sector generates 6,897MW, and imported electricity from India accounts for 1,160MW.
The remaining 2,800MW of electricity is generated by dedicated operators in the industrial sector, while 250MW is generated
by renewable energy.
Nevertheless, many experts believe that the country will not be able to provide a reliable and quality power supply
until the transmission system has developed to a certain size.
Munawar Moin, senior vice president of the Bangladesh Solar and Renewable Energy Association (BSREA), said there should be a smart grid system so that solar energy can be integrated into the system
