    The new synthesis plant will provide support for China's fast-growing antioxidant market The annual production capacity is 42000 tons On December 17, BASF's new world-class antioxidant plant phase II in Shanghai Caojing base was officially put into operation The second phase of the plant includes a synthesis plant for the production of antioxidants Irgafos ® 168 and Irganox ® 1076 With the completion of phase II project, the annual capacity of the device will reach 42000 tons, mainly serving Chinese customers "When the company initially decided to build new devices to support BASF's growing antioxidant business, we sought to complete the construction in a fast, safe and efficient way," said Hermann Althoff, senior vice president, Asia Pacific, BASF specialty chemicals The new device adopts the most efficient production process, aiming to meet high environmental protection standards The device is located at BASF Caojing base in Shanghai Chemical Industry Zone, and BASF R & D center in Shanghai can provide technical support for polymer producers and processing industry " Integrate the concept of sustainable development into the design and operation The first phase of the plant, including liquid antioxidant production plant, particle form production plant and powder mixing plant, has been officially put into operation in January 2019 This is BASF's first use of modular concept to build the device, and the project has been completed in just 10 months, only half of the time needed for site construction In just 230 days, BASF prefabricated 10 device modules outside the base, each weighing up to 440 tons After the completion of module prefabrication, the module will arrive at the base through 24-hour shipping via Donghai and Yangtze River, and then it will take only five days to complete the site assembly The sustainable operation of the plant is an important part of its design Compared with the existing antioxidant device, the new device has lower energy consumption intensity and less waste per ton of product For example, most of the process water used in the unit will be reused for production, and new drying technologies are used to reduce solid waste Thanks to these process features, the device recently received a 50 million yuan (6.5 million euros) grant from the Shanghai municipal government The funds come from a plan set up in 2015 to promote the transformation and upgrading of Shanghai's industrial economy, encourage companies in Shanghai to invest in environmentally friendly technologies, and promote energy conservation and emission reduction Antioxidants help prevent thermal oxidation of plastics in high-temperature processing environments Oxidation will result in the decrease of impact strength and elongation, surface cracking and discoloration At one or more stages of production, processing and use, almost all polymer materials will undergo oxidative degradation BASF has a global production network and is the only supplier with plastic additive production bases in Asia, Europe, North America and the Middle East.
