    BASF Shanshan establishes battery materials joint venture in China

    The new company will be majority-owned by BASF, with BASF holding 51% and Shanshan holding 49%

    It is understood that the newly established joint venture company has 4 bases in Hunan and Ningxia, China.
    Its business covers raw materials, cathode material precursors (PCAM), cathode active materials (CAM) and battery recycling, and has a dominant market position in the battery material industry.
    It is planned to achieve an annual production capacity of 90,000 tons in 2022
    .

    BASF will inject strong technology and R&D capabilities, global operational layout, and a raw material supply system built with strategic partners into the cooperation between the two parties; Shanshan will inject extensive industry experience, comprehensive product portfolio and leading mass production capabilities into the joint venture.
    The joint venture company will mainly focus on the fast-growing electric vehicle (EV) market and continue to serve the global consumer electronics and energy storage markets

    BASF continues to deploy globally, focus on being close to customers, strengthen its product portfolio, and ensure a sustainable supply of raw materials

    With the successful completion of this transaction, BASF has achieved an important step in the implementation of its strategic roadmap: establishing a global battery material value chain, and achieving a global production capacity of 160,000 tons by 2022
