    EllaLink, an undersea cable system connecting Brazil and Europe, has signed a capacity purchase agreement
    worth 25 million euros with BELLA on behalf of GÉANT and RedCLARA.

    According to reports, EllaLink is a new submarine cable system connecting Brazil, Spain and Portugal, with a capacity of 72Tbps, which is expected to be put into use
    in 2020.
    The new system will provide low-latency, data privacy and high-volume transmissions
    to a wide range of customers between major financial and population hubs in Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean.

    Connecting data centers in Madrid, Lisbon, Fortaleza and São Paulo, EllaLink will provide fast submarine communication connections
    between Europe and Latin America.

    Alfonso Gajate, Chairman and Founder of EllaLink, said: "We are delighted to have reached a key milestone

    EllaLink is a new submarine cable connecting Brazil and Europe, connecting the main hubs of São Paulo and Fortaleza to Lisbon and Madrid

    Built by Alcatel Subsea Networks, the system will be one of the next generation of coherent submarine cables, providing 72Tbps capacity
    via 4 pairs of fibers.
    EllaLink has set up landing sites in Santos (Brazil), Fortaleza (Brazil) and Sines (Portugal), which are scheduled to be operational
    in 2020.

    BELLA, which stands for Building the Europe Link with Latin America, provides the long-term interconnection needs of the European and Latin American research and education communities for spectrum between direct submarine cables through the procurement and deployment of long-term non-disposable use units (IRUs), and deploys a 100Gbps broadband research and education network
    in Latin America.

    BELLA is implemented
    jointly by the regional research and education networks GANTANT (Europe) and RedCLARA (Latin America) and the national research and education networks of Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal and Spain.
