African countries of Botswana and Cameroon have taken steps to add 125MW of PV capacity
to their respective national grids.
Botswana Power has issued an Invitation to Quote (RFQ) to interested companies and other parties to develop 100MW of photovoltaic capacity, specifically including two separate 50MW solar projects
.
Botswana Power will sign long-term PPA PPAs
with the winning bidders.
However, no financial information has been released for this round of tendering, and the prequalification of all parties involved will be launched
on September 11, 2019.
In May, Botswana Power briefly cancelled a proposed 100 MW solar tender
.
The new tender represents a shift
in independent power producers to assume all responsibility at both locations.
Meanwhile, Cameroon's public power company Eneo signed a memorandum of understanding with a renewable energy developer to develop two PV projects
with a total installed capacity of 25 MW.
Specifically, one of the PV projects will be built near Maroua in the Far North Province with an installed capacity of 15 MW, and the other in the Guider area of the Northern Province with an installed capacity of 10 MW
.
With a total investment of $24.
5 million in the two projects, Eneo will purchase the electricity
generated by the two PV plants through PPA.
According to the plan, the two PV projects will be put into operation in 2020, which will help improve Cameroon's energy mix, especially the interconnection of the northern grid
