Later this year, Tesla will supply 212 kW/840 kWh batteries
to BP's Titan 1 wind farm in South Dakota.
BP also operates 12 other wind farms
    in the United States.

Providing large-scale battery power to wind farms can store energy when wind is abundant and provide power when demand is high, providing important commercial advantages
    for volatile energy sources.

BP said in a statement: "The project will enable the company to make more informed decisions
when evaluating and developing battery applications in the future.
    " ”

The project also supports BP's broader strategy
    .
Invest $500 million annually in low-carbon technologies, including established renewable energy portfolio projects as well as new low-carbon business projects
    .

Several oil companies have already invested in battery storage technology
    .
Statoil plans to use a battery system called Batwind for use in the Hywind floating wind farm
    off the coast of Scotland.

VPI Immingham, a subsidiary of Victor, has developed a 50 MW grid-connected battery portfolio project
    in the UK.

BP estimates that renewables will provide around 10% of global energy demand by 2035, up from 4%
    today.
