BP said Thursday that oil giant BP has expanded renewable energy supply agreements with Amazon to provide green power
for the U.
S.
e-commerce giant's European operations and Amazon Web Services.
BP said it will add 404 MW of wind capacity to Amazon in Europe from 2022, with more than half coming from new wind projects in Sweden and the rest from two new wind projects
in Scotland.
BP said the deal was a key part of
its strategy to transform into an integrated energy company.
Just half a month ago, BP announced that it had agreed to sell its London headquarters for £250 million, a major step
in BP's transition to low-carbon energy.
BP had said in its second-quarter income statement that "the continued severe impact of the COVID-19 pandemic continues to create a volatile and challenging trading environment, with the outlook for commodity prices and product demand remaining challenging and uncertain"
.
To meet current challenges, BP will increase its low-carbon spending to $5 billion a year by 2030 and increase its renewable energy generation to 50 gigawatts (GW), while reducing oil and gas production by 40%
compared to 2019.
