Ventilator-related pneumonia (VAP) is one of the major in-hospital infections in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), resulting in increased mortality and morbidity.
studies have shown that oral purification through the use of mechanical and pharmaceutical preparations can significantly reduce the incidence of VAP, but the oral care practices of the ICU are not consistent.
a double-blind randomized controlled trial conducted at a three-level care center in India to assess the effectiveness of toothbrush-based oral care techniques in reducing vaP incidence.
results show that brushing teeth and simultaneous suction techniques are not better than mouth rubs. The biggest risk factor for vaP
is the number of days on the ventilator (the length of time you have used the ventilator). There was a statistical association between
sex and antibiotic use and VAP.
