Brazil's state-owned energy research company EPE announced on Tuesday that nearly 58 GW of renewable energy projects have been registered for an auction
scheduled for September 30, 2021.
According to reports, this round of A-5 auction will contract projects
involving wind, solar, hydro and biomass resources, as well as coal, natural gas and municipal solid waste.
Overall, 1,694 energy projects will compete for a total of 93,859 megawatts of power
.
Specifically, there are 835 solar energy projects totaling 32,254 MW, 690 wind power projects totaling 22,811 MW, biomass energy projects totaling 1,476 MW, hydropower 71 totaling 1,118 MW, municipal waste projects totaling 315 MW, coal projects totaling 1,300 MW, and 52 natural gas projects totaling 34,585 MW
.
According to the government's previous announcement, the tender round will award power purchase agreements that will take effect on January 1, 2026, with hydropower for 25 years, wind and solar for 15 years, and other sources for 20 years
