Brazil's installed wind power capacity has exceeded 20GW

Aneel, Brazil's national electricity sector regulator, recently announced that Brazil's installed wind power capacity has exceeded 20 GW
with the start of operation of 45.
9 MW of new turbines.

The country currently has more than 750 wind farms with a total of more than 10,000 wind turbines, generating enough energy to meet the monthly needs
of 20 million residents.

Northeast Brazil remains home to the country's largest wind turbines, accounting for about
90% of total installed capacity.

Aneel has approved 353 new wind projects with a total capacity of more than 12 GW, of which 170 are already under construction
.
The agency expects Brazil's installed wind capacity to reach about 25 GW
in the next two years.

According to the agency, Brazil had less than 2 GW
of wind power installed in 2013.
The growth of the sector has been mainly driven by renewable energy auctions
held over the past 10 years.
