An analysis of more than 13,000 children recruited in a large breastfeeding follow-up study in Belarus by European and American researchers found that babies who exclusively breastfed for at least three months had a 54 percent lower risk of eczema at age 16.
, however, the researchers have not observed evidence that breastfeeding prevents asthma. Carsten Flor, of King's College London, who was in charge of the study, said in a statement that the World Health Organization recommends exclusive breastfeeding for up to six months, and their study further demonstrates the importance of promoting breastfeeding.
eczema is a common skin disease that causes erythema, itching, rupture and even festering of the skin, mostly in children and recurrent in some adulthood.
