The Turkish Solar Energy Association Günder has released a new solar development roadmap, predicting that the cumulative capacity of photovoltaic power generation in Turkey will reach around
    14 GW by 2023.
This means that the country will need to add more than 11 GW of additional capacity
    .

    According to the association, 4.
    8 GW
of unlicensed solar power generation has been registered over the next five years.
Günder further believes that solar energy has the potential to reach a cumulative capacity of 38 GW by 2030, which is equivalent to an additional 24 GW
    on top of 2023.

The association went on to say that if this target is met, domestic PV installed capacity is expected to exceed the 2027 solar target of 15 GW set by the Turkish government by more than
    20 GW in 2030.

However, Günder said in its report that the above predictions can only be achieved if domestic PV technology production is fully established, and if there is a clear regulatory framework that can be established and effectively implemented
    in the decade beginning 2020.

In order to achieve these goals, it is also necessary for the government to improve the financing conditions and start-up procedures
    for various photovoltaic projects.
Overall, the achievement of this milestone will further depend on the country's macroeconomic situation, as recent local currency depreciation has been shown
    .
This year, the local PV market is not expected to see the same significant growth
    between 2016 and 2017.

As for financing, the Turkish government expanded the possibility of using foreign currency financing for unlicensed PV projects with a capacity of up to 1 MW in July, which were approved
    on June 21, 2018.

While the unlicensed project segment may slow down in the short term, the upcoming tender for 1 GW of large-scale solar (compliant with domestic content requirements) could ensure further growth
