By the end of 2018, nearly 6.4GW of grid-connected offshore wind power in Germany had been installed

According to data released by the German Wind Energy Association, in 2018, Germany added 969 MW of grid-connected offshore wind power capacity, and by the end of 2018, it had reached 6,382 MW
.
In addition, 276 MW of fully equipped turbines have not yet begun to supply power to the grid, 966 MW of offshore wind facilities are under construction, and 112 MW of offshore wind awaiting final investment decisions

Several German industry associations have recommended at least 20 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030, and require a special tender of no less than 1,500 MW in the first quarter of 2019

The association stressed that the offshore wind industry now needs a credible framework and a clear political signal

"To meet the goals of the alliance agreement, the offshore wind industry needs to expand to at least 20 GW by 2030 and at least 30 GW by 2035," industry sources said
.

Under the alliance agreement, Germany aims to reach 65 percent renewable energy
by 2030.
However, how offshore wind will contribute to this goal is unclear
.
The association noted that current political conditions are slowing the growth of
offshore wind in Germany.
Therefore, higher capacity expansion must be implemented as soon as possible, and planning prerequisites
must be created.
