Canada approves calcium carbonate as a coloring agent for non-standardized candies

In the list of permitted emulsifiers, gelling agents, stabilizers and thickeners, calcium carbonate has been approved as a food additive for various foods in Canada, including non-standardized candies.
Health Canada did not find any safety hazards in its assessment, so it revised the list of permitted colorants to allow calcium carbonate to be used as a colorant in edible inks printed on soft and hard candies and various candy coatings.

The regulation will take effect on the date of issuance.
