    Norwegian Salmon Farm argues that the closure measures announced at the end of 2020 will result in the loss of millions of people’s income and the disappearance of hundreds of jobs in coastal communities.
     
    Companies affected by the decision include Mowi, Cermaq and Grieg Seafood.
    The Canadian First Nations Leadership Council (FNLC) called on Mowi, Cermaq, and Grieg Seafood to stop the decision to overthrow the minister on the grounds that most of the indigenous people support the minister’s decision.
    Bernadette Jordan consulted with the indigenous people before making a decision.
     
    The areas closed by the Discovery Islands next summer include Homalco, Klahoose, K'ómoks, Kwaikah, Tla'amin, We Wai Kai, and Wei Wai Kum Firs Nations.
