China Coatings Online News Information: The world
s first 3D-printed electric vehicle for carbon fiber composites has been unveiled. Local Motors, an Arizona automaker, recently announced the launch of Olli, a self-driving electric car made from carbon fiber composites and 3D printing technology. According to Local Motor, Olli is the world's first self-driving vehicle equipped with IBM's Watson Watson IoT technology. On June 16, Olli has already conducted test drives in Washington, D.C.; by the end of 2016, it will be driven in Miami-Dade County and Las Vegas, Nevada.
according to China Coatings online
Experts say Olli is capable of carrying 12 passengers and is surrounded by more than 30 sensors that can quickly capture data from the surrounding environment and analyze and calculate using Watson's Internet of Things technology. It also incorporates four Watson applications that provide features including voice-to-text, natural language classifiers, entity extraction and text-to-speech, as well as self-diagnosis of vehicle status. "Olli provides the market with a long-lost intelligent, safe and durable transportation solution." John B. Rogers Jr., president and partner at Local Motors, said.
" Olli, with its Watson system, opens the door to the application of self-driving cars. We've worked hard for this for many years, and now we're ready to apply it to any car we have right now. We are looking forward to how this latest automotive technology will resonate with the market. According to local Motors, the carbon fiber composites used in its production are made up of 80% ABS and 20% carbon fiber, and between a quarter and a third of the body are printed using 3D printing technology. In 3D printing, Local Motors uses the same technology as its LM3D Swim. The latter, the world's first 3D-printed car, was once on display on Capitol Hill.
