The Chemours Company announced today that it will collaborate with academia, industry and government experts on a three-year recycling research project to develop a method to recover titanium dioxide and polymer from plastic end-use products.
Efficient, economical and more sustainable process technology for materials

    .

Launched in 2020, the initiative, called Remove2Reclaim, aims to drive environmental benefits by eliminating waste and reducing energy use in manufacturing, Chemours said
    .
Commercial-scale recycling technologies have not been able to efficiently separate polymers and additives, limiting the potential application and quality of recycled plastic products

    .
The goal of Remove2Reclaim is to develop better detection and separation technologies for the separation and recycling of titanium dioxide

    .

"This initiative has the potential to recover thousands of tons of titanium dioxide from different end-of-life waste and reduce raw material requirements and create new titanium dioxide for our customers," said Steven De Backer, technical marketing manager for EMEA, The Chemours Company.

" In the first year, the project's research partners developed mechanical sorting systems to identify plastic waste containing titanium dioxide, separate titanium dioxide using solvent extraction, develop new methods and equipment for recycling, and use it in new products Reuse titanium dioxide and polymers
