"White pollution" caused by plastic bags has become a global environmental problem.
A Chilean company recently invented a new type of plastic bag that can be completely dissolved in water and does not contain petroleum derivatives, which is expected to solve the environmental problems caused by traditional plastic bags that are not easily degraded.
The company called Solubag spent more than 4 years improving the current chemical formula for producing plastic bags.
The new plastic bag ingredients include polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), carbon and hydrogen.
The company’s general manager Roberto Astete said at a press conference: “All the ingredients of the product have been approved by the U.
S.
Food and Drug Administration and will not cause harm to the environment.
” He put a new type of plastic bag into it.
In a container filled with water, stir gently with a spoon, and the bag will be completely dissolved.
"Medical tests have proved that this aqueous solution has no effect on the human body.
" Astete said that the appearance of the plastic bag made of the new material is very similar to the traditional plastic bag, and the function is exactly the same.
“Don’t worry about rain.
Manufacturers can set the temperature at which plastic bags will dissolve when they come into contact with water.
”
He said: “Ordinary plastic bags will take at least several hundred years to degrade, and new plastic bags will only take a few minutes.
Use it for a second time, and dissolve it anytime and anywhere after the bag is damaged.
”
The company's R&D staff said that after continuous improvement, the cost of new materials has been greatly reduced from the initial stage of research and development, and it is suitable for mass production and market launch.
According to data from the United Nations Environment Programme, more than 500 billion plastic bags are used worldwide each year, and plastic pollution has caused serious damage to the human living environment.
