Recently, the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor’s first large-scale energy project for power generation, the Sahiwal coal-fired power station jointly invested and constructed by China Huaneng Shandong Power Generation Co.

In response to its own power shortage, the Pakistani government, while pursuing energy diversification, has always valued the stable power generation of thermal power stations without being restricted by natural conditions, and has promoted the construction of a batch of technologically advanced, environmentally-compliant, and fuel-efficient gas plants.

In addition to providing Pakistan with a substantial and stable output of electricity through imported coal-fired power stations, the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor has also helped Pakistan achieve a historic breakthrough in the use of its own coal mines for power generation

While the newly built coal-fired and gas-fired power stations have brought a large amount of new installed capacity to Pakistan, the oil-fired power stations that use blast furnace oil and high-speed diesel as fuel are gradually being phased out, and their power generation has plummeted by 60% and 96%, respectively, leaving only 9092 gigawatt-hours and 31 gigawatt-hours

In terms of renewable energy, the power generation of Pakistan hydropower projects in the 2018/2019 fiscal year reached 32,356 GWh, an increase of 14% over the previous year, and the power generation of wind power projects reached 3,232 GWh, an increase of 56% over the previous year

The energy and power construction projects under the framework of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor have been put into production one after another, which contributed to the optimization of Pakistan's power structure in the previous stage
