According to a report by the Bangkok Post of Thailand on June 28, the Department of Foreign Trade of the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand revealed that China's COFCO Group has agreed to purchase 20,000 tons of white rice from Thailand through an intergovernmental agreement (G2G) and ship it to China between June and July
.
This is part of the Ministry of Commerce and the Thai Rice Exporters Association's joint promotion of the 6 million tons of rice exports this year.
It is also part of the Memorandum of Understanding (ie Rice for High Speed Rail Agreement) signed by COFCO and Thailand in early 2015 to purchase 2 million tons of rice
.
According to reports, due to relatively high prices, China’s delayed purchases, Tammy’s exports to China under the G2G agreement have been suspended for several years
.
In 2020, China imported 381,363 tons of Thai rice, a year-on-year decrease of 19%, and the total value was US$277 million, a year-on-year decrease of 10%
