Research Introduction LA is an essential fatty acid in the synthesis of eicosanoids.
Epidemiological studies have shown that there is an inverse association between circulating LA levels and IS.
However, whether this association is causal is still unclear.
The researchers obtained summary statistics on IS from the Megastroke Alliance, including 34,217 IS cases and 404,630 control cases of European descent.
In MR analysis, 17 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) related to circulating LA levels were used as instrumental variables (IVs), and the other two sets of SNPs were used for sensitivity analysis.
The inverse variance weighting method was used to assess the potential causality between circulating LA levels and IS.
Main findings: ➤For each increase of one standard deviation of the LA level predicted by the gene, the incidence of IS decreases by 2% (95%CI: 1%-3%).
