China will cancel coronavirus testing for refrigerated and frozen foods

From SeafoodNews on January 3, from January 8, China will stop testing refrigerated and frozen foods for the new coronavirus, and no longer require all imported refrigerated and frozen foods to enter centralized warehouses for disinfection and testing
before entering the domestic market.

The lifting of these measures follows a statement issued by Chinese customs on Wednesday (December 28) saying it would stop testing cold chain food
arriving at Chinese ports.

China began testing imported refrigerated and frozen foods for the coronavirus in 2020, and regulators believe the virus will spread from imported agricultural products, significantly increasing costs
for importers and exporters.

Joel Haggard, senior vice president for Asia Pacific at the American Meat Export Federation, said ending COVID testing and sterilization of imported food at ports and market distribution points would be an encouraging step
toward normalizing trade.
