    The research team of Xiang Hua/Li Ming from the Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences previously discovered a new class of dual RNA-type toxin-antitoxin system CreTA that can protect CRISPR-Cas (Science, 2021).


    Through a large number of genetic experiments, the research team found that CreA can only use the CRISPR-Cas system carrying the CreTA element to inhibit the transcriptional expression of CreT toxin and form a "cell addiction" circuit, but cannot use the closely related CRISPR-Cas system


    This study elucidates the unique evolutionary path of CreTA to achieve "functional evolution" through "sequence degeneration", reveals its molecular mechanism of improving its own stability through repeat degeneration, and highly specifically protecting its nearby CRISPR-Cas gene clusters, and provides a basis for The innovative upgrade of CRISPR tools provides new components and new ideas
