On the basis of discovering the mechanism of reduced human choroidal blood flow and hypoxia in the sclera to induce myopia, the research team found that daily gavage of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (ω-3 PUFAs) can significantly reduce the form deprivation of guinea pigs and mice The development of myopia and guinea pig negative lens-induced myopia (Figure 1)
    .

At the same time, intraocular injection of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) can inhibit the progression of myopia in form-deprived guinea pigs

The study shows that ω-3 PUFAs are expected to be an effective, safe and convenient drug to be used in interventions to inhibit myopia in children and adolescents, and provide a better choice for the comprehensive prevention and control of myopia in children and adolescents
