Chinese scientists take the lead in revealing the relationship between blood pressure and cognitive impairment to help precision blood pressure management programs |
China News Service, June 2nd (Sun Guogen, Chen Jing) Hypertension and dementia are both important public health problems in today's society.
The reporter learned on the 2nd that Professor Yu Jintai from the Department of Neurology, Huashan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University, and Professor Tan Lan from the Department of Neurology, Qingdao Municipal Hospital, Affiliated to Qingdao University, worked for 5 years and revealed the relationship between different blood pressure characteristics and cognitive impairment through a large clinical cohort study.
Studies have found that the relationship between blood pressure and cognition and the pathology of Alzheimer’s disease is age-specific: high blood pressure in middle age significantly increases the risk of cognitive impairment; while hypotension in old age seems to have an impact on cognition and brain Even worse; whether in middle-aged people or elderly people, high pulse pressure difference (systolic blood pressure-diastolic blood pressure) significantly increases the risk of cognitive impairment.
Researchers have found that high blood pressure variability in middle-aged and old age can significantly increase cognitive impairment, and the pathological changes of tau protein in the brain may be a key link in blood pressure affecting cognitive impairment, or an important part of preventing cognitive impairment caused by blood pressure.
It is reported that the main cause of Alzheimer's disease is the presence of senile plaques and neurofibrillary tangles in the brain.
According to reports, on the basis of the CABLE cohort (Chinese Alzheimer's Disease Biomarker and Lifestyle Research), the Yujintai research team has taken the lead in establishing a large-scale cognitive impairment clinical research database and biological sample library.
Further studies have shown that the pathological changes of tau protein at the core of Alzheimer's disease may be a key link in the impact of blood pressure on cognitive impairment.
Professor Yu Jintai pointed out that the results of this research are of great significance to the management of blood pressure and the prevention of Alzheimer's disease.
