The classical cytokinin signal transduction depends on the histidine receptor kinase HK , histidine phosphotransferase HP , and the histidine (H) and aspartic acid (D) in the cytokinin response factor RR .

The Chu Chengcai research group of the Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Zhang Jinsong / Chen Shouyi research group and the Tong Hongning research group of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences found that PPKL1, which controls grain size, is a new component of cytokinin signaling, and the D364 site of PPKL1 passes through Induces the phosphate group on the cytokinin phosphotransfer protein AHP2, reduces the phosphate relay efficiency from AHP2 to the cytokinin response factor RR21 protein, and inhibits rice grain development (Figure)

Through large-scale mutagenesis, the researchers screened a large-grain mutant s48 and cloned the mutant gene PPKL1 .

    The PPKL family in

Interestingly, the PPKL family is an important component in the main signaling pathway of brassinolide, and the phosphatase region at the carboxyl terminal is necessary for brassinolide signaling
