By visiting the Danish National Medical Insurance, the researchers identified all IBD patients and all urolithiasis cases in Denmark from 1977 to 2018, and obtained information on all IBD medications and surgical procedures from 1995 to 2018 at the same time

In this study, there were a total of 75,236 IBD patients, of which 2,549 (3%) had urolithiasis, and 11,258 (2%) of 767,403 non-IBD individuals had urolithiasis.

This study confirmed that the risk of urolithiasis in patients with IBD increased by a factor of two, and the risk of urolithiasis before the diagnosis of IBD increased by 42%
