This is a retrospective single-center study in which researchers re-analyzed 103 pathological specimens from primary ileectomy.

The results of the study showed that compared with stenotic Crohn’s disease (B2, n = 29), penetrating Crohn’s disease (B3, n = 74) had significantly higher intestinal inflammation (96% vs 76%).

This study finally concluded that regardless of the CD phenotype, the fibrosis score and the degree of intestinal fibrosis are similar, but the severity of intestinal inflammation is the main difference between penetrating disease and stenotic disease.
