    This article discusses possible causative factors such as viral load loci, differences in immune response, neurodegenerative changes, and inflammation to understand and study the pathogenesis of long-term COVID neurological syndrome

    Prolonged COVID syndrome is a complex chronic clinical sign and symptom presentation in patients who have experienced SARS-CoV-2 infection but have not yet fully recovered
    .

    An increasing number of COVID-19 patients are suffering from the persistent effects of the disease, with symptoms including stupor, difficulty remembering recent events, tachycardia and extreme fatigue
    .

    Patients who did not develop prolonged COVID syndrome following infection with SARS-CoV-2 were reported to be asymptomatic within 8-12 weeks or less of infection
    .

    The extent to which the human immune system responds to COVID-19 varies from person to person for several reasons, including (a) viral load, (b) expression levels of ACE2 in tissues, and (c) the diversity of immune responses
    .

    It appears that after the acute phase, if clearance of SARS-CoV-2 is insufficient, subacute infection will persist and become chronic, eventually manifesting as a prolonged COVID syndrome

    Vaccines may help some patients with long-term COVID-19, but this finding requires further study to verify whether vaccines can support patients with chronic long-term COVID-19 symptoms at the onset level

    Stimulating a weakly primed immune system to destroy the virus also appears to be a possibility, but other mechanisms may also be at work, but this has not been elucidated in long-term COVID
