According to Guo Zhongshan, in order to transform Ningxia's coal resource advantages into economic advantages, as early as 1999, Ningxia Coal started the preliminary work of the coal-to-liquid project.

Coal-to-liquid, gasification is the key.

From 2004 to carry the banner of national energy safety construction and the development of clean and efficient coal conversion, it began to conduct in-depth and innovative research on indirect coal liquefaction technology, and to start construction of a 4 million tons/year coal indirect liquefaction industrialization demonstration project in 2013, the company has experienced "Steady progress" in design procurement, civil construction, and engineering installation.

This project with large scale, long process, multiple series, complex process and high integration difficulty has created many firsts.

From the approval of construction in 2013 to the production of qualified oil products in 2016, the overall load reached 30% in 2017 and 85% in 2018.

"Different from the direct coal liquefaction technology route, the oil products we produce using the indirect coal liquefaction technology route are heavier and more suitable for conversion to chemicals, especially high-end chemicals.

Based on the original design products only diesel, naphtha, and liquefied petroleum gas, according to the characteristics of coal-based synthetic oil, Ningxia Coal Industry Coal-to-Liquid Branch has successively developed crude white oil, light white oil, liquid paraffin, and Fischer-Tropsch heavy oil.

In 2019, Ningmei Coal-to-Liquid Branch will focus on the establishment of a "molecular factory" to promote the high-quality development of coal-to-liquid projects, and strive to maintain more than 90% of its oil product line in operation throughout the year.
