Coal will remain India's largest single source of electricity until 2040

Michelle Manook, CEO of the World Coal Association, said coal is expected to remain India's largest single source
of electricity until 2040.

Michelle stressed that coal will continue to play a vital role
in supporting intermittent renewable energy to support infrastructure development and industrialization.

"India has chosen to prioritise economic growth
brought about by a resilient energy mix, including coal and clean coal technologies," Michelle said.
This requires pragmatism and cooperation from governments, industry and investors to ensure that appropriate policies are in place to support the deployment of
clean technologies.
”

Nevertheless, in recent years, India has offered a new model
in reducing coal power emission pathways and developing and deploying efficient, clean coal technologies more widely.

World Coal Council representatives remain committed to building a sustainable future for coal and playing an active role
in fulfilling global economic and environmental aspirations.
