The Central African Republic (CAR) has begun construction of a national fibre optic backbone that will provide the first international fibre channel
to neighboring Cameroon and Congo.
According to the plan, the project will be implemented in the period 2018-2021 and consists of two routes with a total length of 1,000 km: Bangui-Boali-Bossembele-Yaloke-Bawi-Baoro-Carnot-Berberati-Gamboula-Kentzou (complete connection with Cameroon); and Bangui-Berberati-Nola-Bayanga-Bomassa (complete connection with Congo).
In addition, the Central African Republic plans to establish a 50-kilometer urban fibre loop in Bangui, the capital of Bangui

According to reports, this is also the Central African Republic segment of the CAB project of the China-Africa backbone network, for which the African Development Bank will provide 16.
7 million euros in assistance, while the EU will provide an additional 16.
